Happy Birthday, Terence!

A very happy 206th birthday to Terence Silvermane Lactantius! Well, he's actually 16 years old, since his story was first conceived in 2005(ish), but he's 190 at the story's beginning, so we just tack on an extra year. And since unicorns age a lot slower, ten years for them equal one year for us humans, so he's really a four-legged 19-year-old.

Simple enough arithmetic?

Hello, friends and readers! Mel Mather here, with the first entry for my brand-new blog! You might know me from  Meeting Mel but I wanted to dedicate a blog entirely to my fantasy series that I've been working on since 2005 (yeah, no joke) and that I really hope to publish someday soon.  First of all, the series as a whole will be called The Caer Epics . Yes, that's the way I spelled it because "caer" is Old Welsh for "citadel," "stronghold," or "fortress." I got it from Castle Cair Paravel in C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia and it was an old friend's idea to use "epics."  Much like Lewis's Narnia, my own series is a Christian fantasy; it's got unicorns, dragons, centaurs, werewolves, and all those awesome creatures we kind of wish (and are kind of glad do not) exist for real, but it's also got some pretty strong Christian elements. My First (Almost Completed) Story

For years, I've talked about writing and expressed great hopes that I would finish (and publish) something one of these days. Now such a dream is on the brink of coming true. Tonight, I completed my first story that I plan to put in the public's eye.  It's about my Beowulf, and it's called The Wolf at the Door. It started out as a short story. Then I found I had a lot more to say, so now it's a novella, just a little shy of 20,000 words.  It's about a young girl named Mavie, about 11 years old, who runs away from home after a bad fight with her family. Naturally, she regrets this almost right away, and now she's all alone, hopelessly lost, and scared to death. Beowulf finds her (or she finds him ) and helps her get home in one piece.  Not a terribly complex story, but I believe this will be a great way to introduce Beowulf as well as put my writing chops to the real test.  Of course, there's still a lot of proofreading and editing to do, and th...

Meet the Characters - Varian

While I should probably focus on one adventure at a time, I do have several adventures in mind for The Caer Epics . In my defense, I get burned out if I spend too much time and energy on one thing, and you might as well grab the ideas before they get away, right? Furthermore, an idea for another story just might trigger an idea for the other story you're working on. You never know. Anyway, besides The Unicorn's Crown , I've got another series in the works that I'm pretty excited about, called The First King .  This one is a lot more recent; it was my 2018 NaNoWriMo project, and my most successful one at 90,000 words.  In case you don't know, "NaNoWriMo" means "National Novel Writing Month." Every November, aspiring writers try to write 50,000 words.
